Late or incomplete partnership or S corporation return

CP162 · CP162A · CP162B · CP215 · CP161

What it is
A per-partner or per-shareholder, per-month penalty for a Form 1065 or 1120-S filed late, filed incomplete, or filed without the required K-1s. CP161 is the plain balance-due notice for a business account; CP215 is the civil-penalty version. These penalties qualify for first-time abatement when the three prior years were clean, and for reasonable cause otherwise.
The clock it starts
Pay or respond by the date on the notice. An abatement request can be made at any time while the account is open; the earlier it is made, the less interest runs.
What a response has to establish
A request that states which relief applies, first-time abatement with the compliance history or reasonable cause with the facts of the failure, and asks for removal of the penalty and the interest on it.
